Motorcycle safety
Motorbike season - don't you all want to get out and feel the elements? Well, we've put together a few motorbike safety tips to help you be a safe rider. Remember, safe bike, safe rider - cheap bike insurance.
- Ensure you are visible to other road users - it is sometimes difficult for lorry drivers and car drivers to see bike riders
- Ensure your motorbike is properly maintained, and pay particular attention to tyre checks and lights.
- Take extra care in bad weather and remember both your vehicle and others will take longer to respond to braking
- Wear protective clothing, including a sun visor/protective goggles
- Ensure your helmet meets the Department of Transport safety standards
- Don't share lanes with cars, unless you are safely and legally overtaking
- Consider protecting your ears from the 90 decibels of noise you will experience inside your helmet
- Get professionally trained in motorbike riding if you are not already
- Slow down when approaching bends or curves in the road. Approximately 15% of motorcycle accidents involve losing control on a bend (Source: Department of Transport)
